📍 Oklahoma's First IKEA Opens Friday at Tulsa Hills
According to the IKEA Tulsa store page, the doors open Friday with opening-day hours of 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. From Saturday on, the store runs 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., seven days a week.
This isn't the sprawling blue box some Tulsans pictured. It's IKEA's smaller city-store format: roughly 5,000 products on display, about 3,000 ready to carry out, and no self-serve warehouse. Bigger items are ordered for pickup or delivery. IKEA also said it would give $10,000 to Family & Children's Services to mark the opening.
The City of Tulsa approved a $2.5 million incentive for building, parking and infrastructure work on the site.
💼 The Jobs Inside an IKEA City Store
A smaller footprint doesn't mean a simpler job. IKEA's Tulsa seasonal store co-worker listing rotates across the building: helping shoppers, stocking and pricing displays, assembling showroom furniture, receiving freight, running registers and returns, and serving food at the Swedish Bite counter.
That listing is full time at 34 to 40 hours a week and asks for at least a year of retail experience, preferably in home furnishings. A background check and drug test are required. Listed benefits include paid time off, up to 16 weeks of paid parental leave, retirement and bonus plans, medical coverage at 20 or more hours a week, and an employee discount.
Summer postings also included part-time associates, a sales-planning keyholder and a visual merchandiser. IKEA has not published a total headcount for the store.
💵 What It Pays, and How That Compares
The $18.50 start matches what IKEA posted when Tulsa hiring opened in July. The top of the range, $26.14, is tied to equivalent IKEA years of experience, so a first-time hire should expect to land near the bottom.
Oklahoma's legal minimum is still $7.25, but that is a floor, not a market rate. IKEA's posted $18.50 start is a useful benchmark when you weigh other store offers this season.
⚠️ Before You Commute to Tulsa Hills
If you land a shift, plan for the drive. An Oklahoma Department of Transportation project at U.S. 75 and 81st Street has narrowed lanes and lowered speed limits since June and runs through the end of 2027. Workers coming from Jenks, Glenpool or Sapulpa should build in extra time.
