Lufthansa Technik Nearly Doubles Its Tulsa Engine Shop, Plans 100-Plus Jobs by 2030
TULSA, OK — Lufthansa Technik is nearly doubling the size of its engine shop at Tulsa International Airport, growing from 28 work bays to 46 and planning a dedicated module shop on top of it. The company says the expansion should create more than 100 new jobs in Tulsa by 2030, most of them in the hands-on aviation maintenance work this city has done for generations.
A German aerospace company is betting on Tulsa mechanics. If you hold an FAA powerplant certificate, or want one, this is a name to watch.

What Lufthansa Technik Is Building at the Airport
The company announced the expansion on October 21. Engine service capacity in Tulsa will come close to doubling. The shop works on some of the most common engines flying today: the V2500, the CFM56-5B and -7B, the Rolls-Royce Tay 611-8 and 611-8C, and the newer geared turbofan, or GTF.
Tulsa is also becoming the hub for the company's Mobile Engine Services network, crews that do quick-turn engine repairs so airlines avoid a full shop visit.
According to the Tulsa Regional Chamber, Lufthansa Technik has put $50 million into its Tulsa facilities and training over the past three years.
💼 The Jobs This Expansion Points To
Lufthansa Technik has not released a breakdown by role, a hiring timeline or a hiring event. The 100-plus figure runs through 2030, so expect hiring to come in waves rather than all at once. Get your resume ready now and watch for postings.
Engine shops run on powerplant mechanics, inspectors, test cell and NDT technicians, parts staff and engineers. A recent Lufthansa Technik Engine Services posting for an Engine Technician in Tulsa asked for:
- A high school diploma or GED
- At least two years of experience as an engine technician
- An FAA powerplant certificate
- Willingness to work shifts and travel, which matters for mobile engine crews
- The ability to lift up to 70 pounds and work outdoors in noise and weather
That posting promised "competitive wages" without a number, plus flight privileges, a 401(k), health insurance and 15 to 20 vacation days.
✅ No Certificate Yet? There Is a Way In
The powerplant technician shortage is the reason Lufthansa Technik started a dual-training program in early 2025, modeled on Germany's apprenticeship system. It runs about 18 months and pairs hands-on shop work with classroom instruction. Graduates can test for the FAA powerplant certificate. So far 24 employees have enrolled and 10 have earned their certificates.
The company has not said how outside applicants get in. Coming from diesel, industrial maintenance or military aviation? Ask when you apply. Tulsa's FAA-approved aviation maintenance schools are the other route to the same certificate.
